January 7, 2020: Core Set, Expansion, And Guest Art, Oh My!

Munchkin OzMunchkin Oz Guest Artist EditionMunchkin Oz 2 - Yellow Brick RaidIt is hard to believe that the term "Munchkin" is over a century old, but it's true. Introduced in L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the word was coopted in the 1980s and 1990s to describe a certain type of annoying roleplayer, from which a certain game company took inspiration for a silly card game back in 2001. And then they released a version of that card game based on the Oz stories, creating a causality loop that led to the end of the prior, rational universe and the creation of a new one in which we all now live.

Sorry about that.

Fortunately, Munchkin Oz is still available, as both a regular game and a Deluxe-style Guest Artist Edition, and there's even an expansion for sale on Warehouse 23. If you're curious about the game that rebooted the universe, there's no better time to check it out . . . because you never know when we'll hit the reset button a second time.

(Disclaimer: Some of the above may be disinformation from the Nomes.)
